Missouri SBC targets Acts29

The St. Louis Dispatch reports on increasing enmity from parts of the SBC towards the emerging church, especially Acts 29. What’s interesting is that the leader of this battle on the SBC side is not even a pastor, but someone whose “influence comes from his knowledge of the way the Missouri Baptist Convention is set up.” Hmmm. It’s also noteworthy that the enmity seems to be one-way.

Pray for grace on the part of the Acts29 churches involved.

“He has spent nearly a decade building a political Baptist empire…”

Just another Pharisee…

This is the same junk Jesus dealt with (Mark 2:15-17, Luke 5:30-32)

Our friends at “The Journey” are talking their hits.

It is just a matter of time before Sojourn gets targeted…

“Patrick, pastor of The Journey, said Moran had never called or approached him to talk about the issues.”

That makes me sad. May God help us to be courageous men and women who take the risk of biblical confrontation (see Matthew 18:15-17).

Pray for Darrin Patrick, The Journey, Acts 29 and the Southern Baptists.

Very interesting…

Ya know when you read that article it makes me think that Murray was pretty brave to come share with us a couple weeks ago. He could take a hit for that.

pwc-readsalot pointed out this response article written by a Southern Baptist.

“I find it reprehensible and unconscionable that someone would call a Southern Baptist Church in Missouri, one that is reaching people for Christ and now running over 1200 in worship, ’deceptive’ and ’dangerous.’

Why in the world do we waste our time trying to identify the ’deceptive’ and ’dangerous’ within our convention? Could it be that the real enemy is being ignored and those who are our brothers and sisters in Christ and part of the Southern Baptist Convention are being unnecessarily attacked?”

What makes him think anybody is trying to “infiltrate” the Southern Baptist Convention? I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t want any part of the Southern Baptist Empire….either the conservative part…or the moderate part. And he doesn’t have to worry about swopping sheep either. The people that need friendship and ministry most…in my experience… have never had an honest and compassionate welcome within the Southern Baptist Convention. What he doesn’t understand is….in working out our faith, we don’t value many of the same things he does…so he has no competition from us. What’s scareing him is that there are thousands of people out there that have looked at his churches and are still looking. He needs someone other than himself to blame.
