Here is an interesting survey from Northpoint Community Church. Try to take it without assumption of the results.
I’d be interested to see some comments about what your results are. Any ah-ha moments? Agree? Disagree?

I think that I am one of the few people I know that takes personality tests and fails them. Here we go:

It doesn’t surprise me that I’m apparently not an ascetic. I’m not much for solitude (unless there are books involved, and I don’t think that really counts: you’re still interacting with someone else’s thoughts) - really, though, I live on community.
It also doesn’t really surprise me that apparently I like being in nature and connect to God in that way, but that’s something that really should be kept in check. It’s easy to forget that as much as we can see the glory of God in a beautiful sunset at the beach or a great panorama in the mountains, those things aren’t made in the image of God. People are, and to be with them is to - quite literally - be with the thing that is closest to the image of God than anything else He created on earth.

So it looks like I am tree hugger-monk, who loves Jesus… lol. Some of the greatest ’connects’ I have with God have been outside in nature… hiking a trail, solo camping. One of the way God has revealed himself is through creation.
Psalms 19:1-3 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…
Sometimes we just need to get away, by ourselves. Away from the commotion and crap we deal with daily and find a place we can get on frequency with the Spirit of God. They have been powerful times of God revealing his glory and love.

My highest scores were under
My highest scores were under “intellectual” (20), “caregiver” (17), and “activist” (16). It’s not surprising to me based on my career choice and possible future. However, I didn’t realize how much I prefer interacting with others rather than being alone. While I’m sure most people would identify me as an extrovert, I still very much enjoy alone time. But I suppose as a worshipper, I prefer being around others.

I always over analyze these things. Incongruent statements drive me batty. I forced myself to move quickly though. Regardless, here are my results:

Contemplative: 14
Naturalist: 13
Ascetics: 13
Traditionalist: 9
Activist: 8

Strangely enough, at lunch yesterday, before being exposed to this survey, I told the guys that I was a strange mix of nerd and adrenaline junkie. Hmmm….

Billy and I were within
Billy and I were within three of each other on every category except ascetics - I was 10 and and he was a 24! Hopefully it won’t cause too many problems in the marriage. Hahaha. We both scored the lowest on sensate. Not really sure what a sensate looks like - hope its okay not to be one!
Eric - Thanks for the
Eric -
Thanks for the reminder that nature reflects the glory of God. I have a tendency to forget that!
This would be harder to forget (for me, anyway) if we lived in an area of the country with mountains, for example. Psalm 36:6 is much more meaningful to me when I’m standing in the Rocky Mountains - for me, it didn’t really hit on an emotional level until then, actually. Psalm 19:1 becomes much more interesting when I’m in away from the city at night with a telescope.
Alas, I don’t make it out to the Rocky Mountains on a regular basis, and the telescope is currently in pieces in the closet, but on some level, this is just an excuse: the reaction that we have to the glory of God in nature depends on the condition of our hearts, too, not just whatever spectacular natural thing we’re looking at.

Hi David - I’m Robb
Hi David - I’m Robb Wilson’s and Paula Claunch’s mother. Paula has been telling me about your church (I was a bit aprehensive!) - meeting in a brewery! Ha! Anyway, she wanted me to view your web site which I did. I also took the quiz and scored highest in Traditionalist, Caregiver and Intellectual (HUH??) - surely the intellectual part is wrong!!!
Anyway, Ken and I belong to a very traditional church - First Presbyterian - downtown. I am very active in the church - among my activities is that I am a Stephens Minister. I don’t know if you know what that it - it is a program (worldwide - all denominations) where you train for 16 weeks to be a lay minister to those who are hurting through loss of a loved one, divorce, job problems, etc. I have been ministering to an elderly woman who lost her husband three years ago - she and I have become very close over the past two years. Sometimes she ministers more to me than I do to her! And, that’s the way it works out a lot of the time. I was happy that I scored highest in the caregiver field. It supports my activities in Stephens Ministry. I scored lowest in Activist and Ascetics! Ha!
Just thought you might be interested!
Hello Stella. Welcome to
Hello Stella. Welcome to the online conversation. I understand the apprehension you had about the brewery. It sounds like rebellion, but it smells like grace.
I had a great time with your family at the Auburn-Georgia game. Sorry that my presence jinxed the Tigers. Tell Ken hello. I enjoyed chainsawing and clean up with him on the Gulf Coast last year.
And I can’t end this comment without paying homage to one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes: “Stella!”
