The Blossomwood Journey Group is going through the book of Galatians. I decided to go through that book again today. Something stood out to me that I’d not noticed before.
Emails and blogs are not the most conducive communication sources. It is easy to misread a person’s intent or emotion. One internet norm is that CAPITAL LETTERS indicate yelling or anger. With that in consideration, read what Paul wrote at the end of his Galatians letter/blog/email:
Gal 6:11 “11See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.” ESV
In the New Living Translation it actually reads: “NOTICE WHAT LARGE LETTERS I USE AS I WRITE THESE CLOSING WORDS IN MY OWN HANDWRITING.”
Here are the following words from chapter six in The Message:
“These people who are attempting to force the ways of circumcision on you have only one motive: They want an easy way to look good before others, lacking the courage to live by a faith that shares Christ’s suffering and death. All their talk about the law is gas. They themselves don’t keep the law! And they are highly selective in the laws they do observe. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast of their success in recruiting you to their side. That is contemptible!”
Paul wants put an exclamation point at the end of his warnings against legalism. He warns against adding anything to the understanding of salvation/justification. He is dead set against anyone saying you must do something to receive God’s grace.
The next time you see ALL CAPS in an email or blog, remember that we are saved by grace alone.
SOLA GRATIA!
