mobile bible

Many of you have mobile devices (smartphones) capable of accessing internet webpages anytime you want. Over the past two years I have discovered a few mobile online Bibles that you may find handy. These links below are specially formatted for easy viewing on small screens like your phones.

http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/mobile/ - My new favorite. Offers an easy-to-navigate layout and the pages load very fast. English Standard Version only.
http://mbible.com - The site I’ve used the most. Offers 14 different translations.
http://m.youversion.com/ - From LifeChurch.tv. A site that I’ve rarely used but has a lot of buzz in the blogosphere.

With these websites you can carry The Gospel around with you anywhere you have your mobile device with a data plan. Of course, you could always go out and buy software Bibles to put on your phone. I’ll let you determine the pros and cons of doing that.

Please share your feedback and let me know if you know of other mobile websites that serve similar purposes.

I’m using a free app for the iPhone called simply “Bible.” It has the Bible in (IIRC) 13 different versions and three languages. The best thing about it is that I can be reading a verse and quickly change versions to see comparative wording. Easy touch interfaces to quickly change books, chapters, or search.

I’ve been using youversion

I’ve been using youversion already on my macbook and have enjoyed it. It is great for keeping up with your thoughts as you study scripture. I am looking forward to the day when my iphone on back order comes in so I can put youversion on it.

Another resource:

http://www.e-sword.net/

Only for Windows and Pocket PC (Sorry to all you Apple guys..)

Most bibles on it are free (ESV, KJV, etc…) Some you pay for (The Message, NLT, etc…). It does not require a data plan (Its a native app).

The Windows version is even more robust. You can load commentaries, dictionaries, concordances… you name it!!

Anyways, I love it (Can you tell?)

Actually, I run it with Windows XP/VMWare Fusion on my macbook ;) so, all you Apple guys can run this also (just have to swallow a little OS X pride :) )!

Has a free American Standard Version bible I run on my Bberry. Navigates fairly well (i.e quickly) and it’s free (which is my favorite and why I had to say “free” twice, now thrice, now…).
