David married Danielle in 1991 as a senior in college. They have three sons and a daughter (Blake, JP, Kross and Zoie).
From ’95-’99 Jerry Falwell was his boss and pastor. He was a young dean at Liberty University in Student Development. According to Dave, "Doc" was a good pastor to the Thew family. They moved to Huntsville in ’99 for Dave to be Singles Pastor at Willowbrook. He left Willowbrook around the beginning of 2005 to raise funding, study the city and prepare to plant Sojourn Church.
On Easter 2007 Sojourn launched at Olde Towne Brewing Co. A fire consumed the brewery in July 2007. Since then Sojourn has gathered in various places and currently meets in the Lincoln Village area. Sojourn is excited to begin meeting downtown again. Dave is the founding and lead pastor of Sojourn Church.
